The second phase of applications for new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) appears to be on the horizon. Gradually, ICANN has been disclosing fresh details regarding the process of applying for a TLD in this upcoming round. According to ICANN’s official website, the next application period is anticipated to commence in April 2026.
Predicting the number of new TLD strings that will be applied for is challenging, but it is plausible to assume that a significant proportion of them will be brand-specific TLDs. Brands that were not established when the first round of applications began in 2012, as well as those that may have been unsuccessful in the previous round, are likely to express interest in acquiring a TLD that matches their brand.
Com Laude, a domain registrar specializing in corporate clients, has announced an upcoming webinar to delve into the intricacies of operating a dotBrand TLD. The webinar will be led by Ashley Roberts, who heads the New TLD Consultancy at Com Laude. Andee Hill, the Director of gTLD Accounts at ICANN, will be joining as a guest speaker. The primary objective of this event is to provide insights and address queries related to the next round of TLD applications, particularly for brands.
The webinar will be conducted on November 7th, with two sessions scheduled – one at 12pm CET and another at 12pm EST. Prior registration is mandatory to participate. It’s worth noting that attendance may be restricted to brands rather than domain investors. If you are interested in the next round of TLDs and wish to attend the webinar, you should reach out to Com Laude or register on the dedicated registration page.
